Farmers Markets – A Gluten-Free Win!
Summer is peak season for farmers markets and they’re a great way to shop for anyone eating gluten-free.
Imagine being outside in the fresh air, shopping straight from the source instead of scanning every label or Googling ingredients in a grocery store aisle.
Fresh fruits, veggies, herbs, and more, all naturally gluten-free and locally grown.
Not only do you skip the stress of the grocery store, but you also get:
- Seasonal ingredients are perfect for gluten-free recipes.
- Real, fresh food that doesn’t require having to read a label.
- A chance to meet the growers and ask questions.
You’ll also find many other items, like sauces, cheeses, salsa, and more. If any of these catches your eye, be sure to ask the vendor about the ingredients, where and how they were prepared, and if they were made by them personally or outsourced.
Most vendors love to talk about their products and how they’re made! You might even find your new go-to gluten-free favorite or inspire them to try their hand at creating something new and gluten-free for their space.
Some questions you could ask would be:
- Is this made in a gluten-free kitchen?
- Do you use any flour or thickeners?
- Are any of the ingredients sourced from an outside vendor?
Heres’ a list of some naturally gluten-free produce you might find at your local farmer’s market:
- Peaches
- Berries
- Tomatoes
- Zucchini
- Green Beans
- Bell peppers
- Herbs
- Local Honey (Be sure to check for any added flavors. It could introduce gluten to the honey. Also, make sure it wasn’t processed in a shared facility with other gluten containing products.)
