Steve received both his Bachelors and Doctoral degrees from the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy. He began his career as a retail pharmacist then transitioned into hospital pharmacy service where he specialized in pediatrics. After completing his Doctor of Pharmacy degree, he started his clinical practice with an emphasis on pediatrics and nutrition support. He worked in the specialty of nutrition support from 1992 until his retirement from Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio in 2019. While he was working at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, he developed an interest in celiac disease and spoke annually at his dietitian’s celiac conference. He has been a member of ASPEN since 1992 and has served on numerous committees, as well as serving as Chair of the Pediatric Section, and Chair of the Drug Shortage Subcommittee. He served as one of the co-editors for ASPENS’s Pediatric Nutrition Support Core Curriculum and ASPEN’s Parenteral Nutrition Handbook. Steve has published a number of articles related to nutrition as well as on the subjects of celiac disease and the ketogenic diet. Steve has given numerous presentations on the international, national, regional and local stages on celiac disease. He was named as a Fellow of ASPEN and has received the ASPEN’s Distinguished Nutrition Support Pharmacist Service Award in 2022. He continues to serve the celiac community, answering consumer questions on gluten in medication.
