July is the perfect month for a camping trip! Whether you’re heading to the mountains, the woods, or the lake, being gluten-free doesn’t mean you can’t join in the fun. There are so many GF friendly things to do and plenty of delicious GF foods you can prepare ahead or cook over your own campfire.

From foil-packet meals to delicious desserts like s’mores and banana boats, the sky’s the limit, and we’ve got you covered with some great GF camping tips below.

Gluten-Free Foil Packet Meals for Camping:

Cooking supplies you’ll need:

  • Heavy-Duty Aluminum Foil
    • You want to make sure to use heavy duty or extra strength foil to prevent tears in your foil during the cooking process.
  • Tong & Oven/Grill Mitts:
    • Long handled tongs make it a lot easier to flip and remove your foil packets safely. Mitts are great to prevent any unwanted injuries.
  • Grill Grate or Rack
    • It’s a good idea to bring your own grill or rack for your campfire pit just in case there is not one provided by the campground, or if you are really roughing it off the grid.
  • Cooking Spray:
    • Make sure to spray the inside of your foil packet before you fill it with all your goodies to prevent sticking. It might be a good idea to bring a small container of oil to use on your grill/rack as well.
  • Plates & Utensils:
    • Paper plates and plastic utensils are always great to have when camping, but make sure those plates are strong enough to hold all that goodness you just cooked up, so it doesn’t end up on the ground.

Cooking Tips:

  • Place the foils directly on the grill/rack, but make sure you’re cooking with hot coals and not big flames to avoid burning your food.
  • Rotate & Flip your packets halfway through cooking to make sure everything inside is getting cooked through.
  • Most packets should take about 15-25 minutes to cook, depending on the ingredients and the heat from your fire.
  • Be sure to open your packet slowly and carefully to avoid getting burned by the steam and Enjoy!
