Cynthia was diagnosed with celiac disease in her mid-thirties. She became very sick and began looking for answers for her health. She reached out to Elaine Hartsook, PhD, RD, founder of the Gluten Intolerance Group, to tap into her expertise and soon after began volunteering regularly with GIG. Cynthia started support groups and attended conferences with Elaine and then unfortunately, Elaine became very ill. Shortly before her death, Elaine decided to pass the organization over to Cynthia, who took a leap of faith and started the adventure of a lifetime! Cynthia had been a clinical dietician at a hospital for 15 years, but decided to leave the practice to do the unthinkable…she went to work for nothing, as the executive director of GIG. Cynthia says “It has been a wonderful adventure, with many challenges.” She has taken GIG from an organization that was primarily a local group with big dreams, and transformed it into an international leader in the gluten-free community. Cynthia lives the gluten-free lifestyle, loves to trek all over the world and is passionate about helping everyone living gluten-free to do so in a positive, healthy way.
